Aligned Body is owned by Alex Alexander who has been in the health and wellness industry for 35 years. She started her career first as a massage therapist in San Francisco and within four years also became a teacher at the National Holistic Institute. Her training included western & eastern modalities as well as energy work. Soon she began to specialize in deep tissue & pregnancy massage. Over the years Alex has developed an intuitive & structural approach and enjoys helping her clients find space and comfort in their bodies.

In 2007 Alex added a new component to her practice when she became a pilates teacher. She had already used pilates for 5 years to deal with her own chronic knee injury that she had lived with since age 18. She had found that the best way to her relieve pain was through strengthening. She worked in San Francisco’s Presidio at A Body of Work. The studio also had GYROTONIC® equipment which captured her attention. After moving to New England and becoming a trainer at Energy Within, Alex took on the long process of becoming certified in the GYROTONIC® expansion system. Created by Juliu Horvath, it is an incredibly comprehensive way to create flexibility, space & strength in the body. Some folks liken it to swimming or doing yoga with weights.

Alex’s goal is to help folks navigate the challenges of living in their bodies with whatever injuries, tightness or stressors they may have. Ultimately hoping to create wellness - space, alignment, freedom of movement and peace of mind.

My services

Massage Therapy
Each 60 or 90 minute session is tailor made for where you are at that day. We take the time to check in so I can give you the care you truly need. Plan on being here for an extra 15 minutes or so to chat and get on and off the table. If you are pregnant let me know and I can set up all the props we will need to make you comfortable.

Pilates
I teach a weekly pilates class on zoom with props. You will need a foam roller and a bender ball. I can help you figure out what to purchase. It is a fun class that I call a slow jam because it is mindful movement. We don’t rush but we do challenge ourselves. Be prepared to stretch & strengthen. If you have a reformer or other pilates equipment at home I can also teach either in person or over zoom.


GYROTONIC® Method
It can be difficult to fully understand until you actually work with the equipment but it’s an incredible movement modality for mind, body & breath. Using the equipment and also seated prep exercises you will lengthen, connect to your core and learn to expand & unwind your whole body. It can be very challenging or very modified depending on your situation so it is available to all.
